Cultural Puzzles: Building Classroom Culture and Community

The purpose of this activity is for students to describe how they became the people that they are today. They began by three conducting interviews of family members. Each interview represented three generations in their family. The first interview was completed by someone in their current generation (sibling or cousin). The second interview was completed by someone from the previous generation (parent or aunt/uncle). The third and final interview was completed by someone from at least two generations prior (grandparents, great grandparents, or great aunt/uncle). The second part of the cultural puzzle project required students to complete an individual questionnaire.
The interview questions and student questionnaire were given to each student. Students were also required to bring in a minimal of two pictures. One of themselves and a family portrait. Students combined all of the information from their interviews and pictures into wonderful posters that will be displayed throughout the school year on our "Get to Know Me!" board. The next time you stop into our classroom please take a moment check out our cultural puzzles and get to know us!
